Performance Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Dean of Counseling and Special Services to provide appropriate counseling and guidance services to the general student and veteran student populations.
1.?Provide educational, vocational, and personal counseling to current and potential college students.?2.?Assist students in making decisions relative to career choice and educational planning, including appropriate testing, vocational counseling, and transfer to a university.?3.?Provide general orientation, program advisement and follow-up counseling for new and continuing students.?4.?Provide such special counseling and guidance service as may be appropriate to special student audiences including veterans, disadvantaged, members of minority groups, academically marginal students, disabled persons, re-entry students and persons in industry.?5.?Participate, as appropriate, in college's outreach program with local high schools and the community.?6.?Develop effective working relationships with faculty members in instructional areas and perform liaison activities as required.?7.?Serve on Division and college-wide committees and/or task forces. 8.?Assist in the preparation of counseling-related publications and in the presentation of workshops.?9.?Provide group orientation and counseling as required. ?10.?Assist, where appropriate, in the articulation of courses and programs with four-year colleges and universities.?11.?Assist students seeking referral to appropriate community agencies or services in response to educational, vocational, or personal concerns.?12.?Participate in professional growth activities.?13.?Provide instruction in student success, career planning and/or other personal growth courses.?14.?Administer and interpret a variety of assessment instruments, to both groups and individuals.?15.?Assist in the development and implementation of special programs focusing on access and retention.?16.?Assume other counseling and guidance responsibilities as assigned.?17.?Assignment may include day and evening hours.?18.?Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member including, but not limited to the following; keep accurate student records, participate in division meetings and serve on college and/or district wide activities and committees as assigned. ?19.?Provide general counseling and services as listed above with respect to the unique needs of the veteran student population.?20.?Counsel students in compliance with Service Opportunity Colleges Marine Corps/American Council on Education (SOCMAR/ACE) guidelines.?21.?Provide specialized counseling and services to military veteran students and eligible family members.?22.?Provide specialized counseling in crisis intervention, stress management, anger management, anxiety, adjustment to civilian life and other developmental issues. 23.?Assist students with veteran's community resources and referrals.?24.?Identify and disseminate information on veteran students' educational, vocational and personal counseling. Collaboratively develop and implement counseling strategies.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:?1.?Must meet one of the following qualifications under (a) through (d): a.?Possess the California Community College Teaching Credential for this subject area?b.?Possess a Master's degree from an accredited institution in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling. c.?Note: A Bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline, pursuant to Title 5 Section 53410.1.?d.?Or, possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required materials.?2.?Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications:?1.?Knowledge of community college curricula and a general knowledge of the California secondary and higher education system.?2.?Knowledge of matriculation requirements with competencies in general academic advisement, educational planning, career, and personal counseling.?3.?Counseling experience working with students and adults within the California community college setting and experience with culturally diverse student populations.?4.?Ability to work effectively with computers and other forms of advanced technology utilized in providing high quality Counseling and instruction and the understanding and successful use of learning technology.?5.?Ability and willingness to teach a wide range of classes as schedules and institutional commitments require. 6.?Strong commitment to professional growth and development, and to the continued innovation and improvement of successful counseling and teaching.?7.?Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with on-campus groups (including students, faculty, administrators and staff), as well as, off campus community and education partners.?8.?Ability to plan, coordinate and implement Counseling projects and special events. ?9.?Knowledge of needs, problems and attitudes associated with veteran students.?10.?A veteran of any branch of the Armed Forces of the United States.

Conditions of Employment:
Contract (tenure track), full-time, two-semesters per year, 195 days, Fall Semester - August 2013

Salary Range: Full-time, two-semester position with a maximum starting range of $51,299.00 - $87,460.00 is offered, based on the 2012-2013 Salary Schedule of $51,299.00 to $122,307.00. In addition, an annual stipend of $2,781.00 is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution.

Pay Philosophy: Starting salaries for academic positions are based on a combination of education and experience. Initial placement is within the starting salary range. Further advancements are based on longevity and professional development. An additional annual stipend is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
